Objective

Wireless networks have become indispensable in mobile communications. Initially seen as a rival or threat for UMTS, technologies such as WLAN, WiMAX and Co. have their own space in the mobile world as well.

Business or public hot spots are taken for granted, although there are still rules and procedures for universal roaming. WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) and broadband Internet access points are currently used by various vendors and are expanding.

There is also new radio technology and  a whole new range of  innovative applications. Voice communication using VoIP is only the beginning of a long chain of possibilities. These should be addressed by market participants.

 The objective of the eco for the WG WLAN is to provide market participants (operators, process and software vendors, etc...) with a platform for discussion on the above issues.
