The WORK-IX is a regional Internet Exchange Point based in Hamburg. An internet exchange point allows the exchange of traffic between various Internet service providers and is an integral part of the global Internet infrastructure.
The platform, which was founded by the Hamburg internet provider n@work, is now used by a number of Internet service providers in the region.
Since August of 2007, the world’s second largest internet exchange operator, DE-CIX Management, has managed the platform’s services. DE-CIX is developing a new high-capacity switch infrastructure for the Hamburg-based platform, enabling faster connections. The goal is it to establish Hamburg’s WORK-IX as the second largest German internet exchange.
