Telekom keen on billing service providers

Deutsche Telekom wants to be able to bill providers of services generating high volumes of data for the use of internet infrastructure. According to dpa, the German Press Agency, Telekom CEO René Obermann told Manager Magazine, “Good internet services will necessarily involve costs at the end of the day.” If Telekom was to provide superior security or better quality of service for online music or video services, then these services ought to be “priced differently”.

According to the report, the discussion with service providers like Google has already been initiated. The company thus takes a clear stance in the dispute on net neutrality. Most governments, however, both in North America and Europe are strict adherents to the concept of net neutrality.
