Advocates of ‘Three Strikes Policy’ come together
According to leaked drafts of an “anti-counterfeiting trade agreement", some of the world’s leading developed nations want Internet service providers to take on more responsibility for the content they distribute. The European Association of Internet Service Providers, EuroISPA, has heard of "severe and wide-ranging measures" that would include "users being disconnected from the Internet”.
The Financial Times cites James Boyle, a professor of law at Duke University in the United States, saying, “Proposals include fines and imprisonment for non-commercial file sharing, increasing the liability of Internet service providers for copyright infringements by their customers and much more.”
