Quick remedy for botnet infections

Users whose computers have been infected with botnet-related malware, will soon be helped by their Internet Service Providers. With support of Germany's Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), eco is launching a help service that includes a telephone hotline. The service operates across the boundaries of individual ISPs.

Once a customer's computer has been identified as malware infected and being part of a botnet, the ISP can send a message to their customer, guiding them to a website that shows them how to remove the malware. There, they will also find access to said hotline, where anti virus specialists will assist personally, if necessary. "This project will help us get Germany off the top ten list of countries with malicious activity," said Sven Karge, Director Content Department at eco. Currently, Germany ranks third.
