EU Commission expands “digital agenda”
The EU Commission recently added a few ambitious projects to its “digital agenda”. Among the things in the pipeline for 2010, when a new set of commissioners take up their work in Brussels, are new ways of financing fibreglass networks, easier licensing for unused networks, and improvements in online consumer rights.
There are also plans for a close monitoring of European regulation on net neutrality. Another focal point is the so called digital dividend, frequencies and bandwidth formerly used for analogue broadcasting that are now to be used to improve broadband access in rural areas.
