Don’t bite the hand that feeds you

Germany’s new government will have to acknowledge that the Internet industry is a key force in lifting the country out of the economic crisis. A great deal of the economy relies on functioning Internet infrastructure. Limiting the growth of the Internet by laying further burdens on it, amounts to “biting the hand” that feeds the economy. The Internet industry needs to invest huge sums to maintain a growing infrastructure.

If we fail to do so we will lag behind internationally. It is therefore essential that the new Government devotes significant attention to the Internet industry, for instance installing an independent advisor who is not part of the Ministry of the Interior. And , instead of imposing tremendous costs as with data retention, the new Government should support models that help the creative industry sell their product over the Internet.
