German banks adopt extended validation SSL

As many as 80 percent of Germany’s banks are already using extended validation SSL (EV SSL) certificates to enhance transaction security and build trust with their customers. A recent survey published by eco and Online Trust Alliance (OTA) shows that, “the German banking sector is doing a good job in securing their websites,” according eco’s Sven Karge.

The survey mapped the procedures that German banks and companies have put in place to enhance the online security and privacy of their customers. It showed that a total of 509 EV SSL certificates belong to German companies, out of the 996 certificates worldwide. EV SSL certificates require stricter standards for identification than the older generation SSL certificates. Using EV SSL certificates is one of twelve basic steps to improve e-commerce consumer protection online laid out by the OTA.
