7th German anti-spam congress

The enormous economic damage caused by spam is perhaps the most urgent problem it poses. The 7th German anti-spam congress, therefore, focussed on precisely that aspect from 14 - 16 September at Schloss Biebrich, Wiesbaden. “Estimates are that one out of four computers worldwide has been hacked and is now part of a botnet,” says eco’s Sven Karge who organized the congress, referring to the sprawling, silent networks of infected consumer computers used, among other things, to send spam.

Karge saw the event not merely as a platform for the exchange of ideas, but hopefully as a catalyst for better cooperation between companies, especially providers. The three days offered plenty of opportunity for that. The first day was dedicated to registrar responsibility and brand management. The second day was used to shed light on the latest technical developments, delivering insight into the application of anti-spam technologies, and the tactics used by spammers. The third and final day offered a variety of workshops providing hands-on experience.
